success!
Canal Fest
20 Years and Still Going Strong
Canal Fest Day, 2005 is aptly described in the above title.
Approximately 1,200 individuals celebrated CLCBM's twentieth year on Sunday,
June 19th 2005 under a brilliant sunny sky.
As in the past, the day's festivities were opened by the raising of the flag by
the Chittenango American Legion and singing of the National Anthem by Margaret
Kelsey.
Following welcome remarks by Bud Penner, special
recognition was given to chair caner and tinsmith Sandy and Burt Rolewicz and wagon
master Harlow Smith for their continuous participation in Canal Fest days
beginning in 1992.
It wasn't long before a crowd was gathered
around the portable sawmill where huge oak tree trunks were cut into lumber
needed for the museum's canal boat construction project.
Added to the fest's long list of entertainment
was a petting zoo and pony rides for the youngsters, sponsored by Chittenango
Lumber. Keith Hunt, a strolling fiddler was accompanied by his wife Judy, a
concertina player. Talented Pam Vittorio entertained with canal songs on the
keyboard while youngsters accompanied her with triangles and clap boards.
Throughout the day 500 plus chicken dinners were
sold as takeouts or for dining under the big tent.
When perfect weather & crowds get together,
good things happen.
