The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum is located within the Old Erie Canal State Historic Park in Central New York State. During the 19th and 20th centuries, 96-foot long cargo boats were built and repaired on this site. The Museum tells of the construction of these boats, the workings of the restored dry docks and the social history of the canal area.
Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum will interpret a nineteenth century dry dock complex on the old Erie Canal, through preservation, restoration, and reconstruction. It will provide the opportunity for visitors from near and far to learn of boat-building and repair of Erie Canal boats, and the social history of the canal era.
The Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor Commission recently announced the recipients of the 2010 Erie Canalway Heritage awards. The Chittenango Landing Canal Boat Museum received the 2010 Heritage Award of Excellence. Details about the award are available here
